Privacy Policy

Your privacy in YidKit

This covers the YidKit apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch (with its widgets) and for Android, and this website. Effective November 4, 2026.

The short version

  • YidKit has no accounts, shows no ads, and never sells your information.
  • Your location, settings and notes stay on your device. Zmanim are worked out on your device.
  • We use Google's Firebase to count which screens are used and to keep the app working, without your name or email.
  • If you write to support, we use your name and email only to reply.

What stays on your device

  • Location. With your permission, YidKit uses your location to work out zmanim, point the Siddur compass, and tell whether you're in Israel (for Israel-only tefila changes). This is done on your device, and your location isn't sent to us. Your saved locations stay on your device, and on iPhone the widgets and Apple Watch read them from the app.
  • Camera. The tefillin mirror shows your front camera on screen. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent.
  • Compass. The compass reads your device's heading on the device.
  • Settings and notes. Your settings, minhag choices and the notes you add to Siddur or Tanach text are saved on your device.

What leaves your device, and why

Usage analytics (Google Firebase)

YidKit uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase anonymous sign-in, from Google, to learn which features are used and to keep the app running well. The app reports events like which screen you opened, which Siddur or Tanach text you opened, which YidMap listing you tapped, and whether the tip jar was shown. Firebase also collects standard details on its own: a random app ID, device model, operating system, app version, language, approximate region (worked out from your IP address) and when you used the app. None of this includes your name, email or exact location.

On Android, Firebase may use your device's advertising ID. On iPhone it does only if you allow tracking when iOS asks. It is used only to measure app usage. YidKit has no ads and doesn't share this data for advertising. Google's handling is described in Privacy and Security in Firebase.

Place names

To show the name of your city, the app asks your phone's built-in geocoding service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) to turn your coordinates into a place name. That request goes to Apple or Google, not to us.

Notes sync

On iPhone and iPad, your notes are also kept in your own iCloud account, so they reach your other Apple devices. On Android, if you choose to back up notes to Google Drive, they're kept in a hidden app folder in your own Google Drive, which only YidKit can open. If you don't, they stay on your phone. We can't see your notes in either place.

YidMap

The YidMap tab shows yidmap.com, a separate community map of kosher places. If you let the map use your location, YidMap uses it to show nearby places, under its own terms.

Tips

Tips go through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment, and we never see your payment details.

Some buttons open other sites, like Tehillim sites or the app stores. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Support and this website

When you use the support form, we get your name, email, device type and message. They're delivered to our inbox through Web3Forms and kept in a private database so we can follow up. We use them only to answer you and fix problems. We don't add you to a mailing list.

This website is hosted by Cloudflare, which keeps standard technical logs (like IP address and browser type) for security. The site uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell, rent or trade your information.
  • We don't show ads or share your data with advertisers.
  • We don't ask for accounts, names or emails in the app.
  • We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Your choices

  • Location and camera: turn them off anytime in your device's Settings. You can still pick a location by hand for zmanim.
  • Tracking (iPhone): choose "Ask App Not to Track", or change it in Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking.
  • Notes: delete any note in the app. On Android you can turn Google Drive backup on or off in the Notes list.
  • Everything on your device: deleting YidKit removes what it saved on your device.
  • Data we hold: use the support form to see or delete your support messages, or to ask about your analytics data. We'll answer within 30 days.

Children

YidKit is a family app that doesn't ask anyone for personal information. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child sent us information through the support form, let us know through the form and we'll delete it.

Keeping it safe

Data the apps send travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Support messages are kept in a private database that only we can open. Analytics data is kept by Google under its retention settings.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. Big changes will also be mentioned in the app's What's New.
